What Is Ghostwriting? 3 Things To Know

A ghostwriter's black fountain pen writes cursive lettering on lined paper.
Not everyone loves to write. This became very apparent to me when I started Prosely Creative. Although I love to write, and find it easy to do, not everyone is so comfortable when it comes to putting down words.

Ghostwriting is a pretty common term in the writing industry. Overall, "ghostwriting" is defined as a person who is hired to write something without getting the credit for it. Ghostwriters write content from articles, blogs, and even books for hire. Although ghostwriting is pretty simple, there are some quirks about it that many don't understand. Learn more about what is ghostwriting and the 3 things you should know about it:

1. Ghostwriters Don't Need the Credit
The entire point of ghostwriting is that you hire someone to write content for you or your company. Oftentimes, the person who is hiring is the same one that will slap their name to the finished content. Ghostwriters understand that their work will be credited to someone else. It can be a hard idea to wrap your head around at first, but ghostwriters are okay with providing content for a fee.

2. Ghostwriters Charge More
Writing is all about bragging rights. When writing for primarily online sources, writers want to attach their name to the pieces that they write. This allows them to link to the article or book and promote their own skills as a writer. Ghostwriters will often charge more to write an article or book. They are forfeiting the right to promote the work as their own, therefore; they will charge a higher price for their services.

3. Ghostwriters Are Not All the Same
With advances in technology, many companies are outsourcing their writing work to other countries. However, while English is a common language, you can't beat the nuances and understanding of a native English speaker. Many ghostwriters who write English, or say they can write English, are often easy to spot when it comes to voice, sentence structure, and proofreading. Although the copy may be technically correct, it is easy to spot a ghostwriter that doesn't speak English fluently.

When it comes to hiring a ghostwriter, it is important to understand the term as well as what ghostwriting involves. Prosely Creative offers ghostwriting services to those clients who want great copy without having to write anything themselves.
